A Fleeting trip to Florence

Tuscany, coffee and sweet treats. Our visit to Florence took an unexpected diversion via Pisa due to 'special weather’.  We later learned due to the short runway and nearby mountains the number of flights that actually land at Florence is less than you would expect. On arrival at Pisa we took the short cab ride to the railway station and caught the one hour train journey to Florence through the Tuscan countryside.

Florence welcomed us with its wondrous architecture and clean paved streets and surprisingly, the city seemed relatively quiet. Florence spoiled us with its array of art and artisanal shops and workshops tucked beneath quite often towering stone buildings of substantial proportions.

The biting cold wind made us walk briskly in search of more sights and yet another quick Macchiato and dare I say another sweet treat. Particularly good is the Florentine speciality 'Pan di Ramerino" a raisin and rosemary bread, an Italian version of the English Hot Cross bun.

Florence is also is famed for its centuries old paper marbling and has inspired me to take it up as a hobby or who knows maybe an occupation one day. We will most certainly be back, perhaps sooner rather than later, to soak up more of the distinctly Tuscan vibe.
