Living With Timeworn Baskets

Characteristics of English, French and Swedish baskets. If you are unable to visit France, Sweden or England to find your ideal basket to furnish your home interior, then look no further, I have sourced a collection for you.

Baskets have been used for centuries for the gathering of home produce and flowers to the storage of provisions, or for the transportation of goods and livestock. Each is often individually hand woven from the available local natural materials unique to each country.

French farm baskets come in varying shapes and sizes, constructed typically from rye straw and bound with wicker, made in the winter months by provencal farmers when they are unable to work the land.

Beautifully crafted folk art Swedish baskets are more usually painted than not. The Spankorg basket is made from bentwood and Rotkorg from discarded wood shavings.
