French Antique Rye Work Cellar Basket

An extra large basket hand woven from rye straw and bound with strips of wood. It has an original timeworn patina, with areas of loss and wear due to age and use.
Once used for the storage of farm produce it would have originally housed a lid or a piece of cloth tied with string to seal the opening. It was typically used for the storage of nuts, fruits or garlic and usually stored in the attic, cellar or cave.
